What's the best way to remove old paint from an old plastic model kit?

I just bought an antique model car kit from the 50's and only one part of it was painted and it's horrid....is there any way to remove it without harming the plastic to much(preferably not at all)? What's the best way to remove old paint from an old plastic model kit?
I was about to explain it, but then hough there are probably many detailed explanations on the net. Here is a good one in which several types of paintcleaners are put to the test:

Try a little ';safe'; corner of the model first. What's the best way to remove old paint from an old plastic model kit?
Sometimes just soaking it in mentholated spirits can remove paint safely, even spray on oven cleaner is ok.

Most professional car modelers use a VERY simple solution - automobile brake fluid! Yup, #3 type mineral ( not silicone) will remove paint, glue, etc and not damage the thin plastic at all. then you can clean it off in hot water and dishwashing fluid to remove any grease or contaminants, and you're good to restore the car and redo it. Easy enough, eh?
