I once washed such a shirt in the washing achine inside out on gentle cycle and it got ruined. The letters started peeling off. So I don't advise you to do the same. Wash it by hand inside out in a sink or bathtub and lay it flat to dry. Good Luck!
With cold water in the bath tub, gently, keeping it as flat as I can manage and then hang to dry.
