Could I paint my plastic bathtub with that paint that looks like stone?

We have a huge garden style tub in our master bath, but it is ugly yellow plastic. Is it possible to paint it with that paint that makes it look like stone, or with a paint made specifically for plastic? There is no money in the budget for a replacement, but i so wish I could get rid of that yellow! Any suggestions? thanks!Could I paint my plastic bathtub with that paint that looks like stone?
As a paint representative for the largest paint company in the world, you pose a very common question I hear on a daily basis. The first step is to identify the substrate or surface you will be painting. Most tubs are acrylic or fiberglass covered in a gel coat. Either way rough the surface with Ajax or Comet and a red scotch brite pad (available at your local hardware store). Abrade the surface untill the entire surface is dull. Apply a few coats of plastic adhesion promoter (krylon makes one called fusion which works well. Let flash 15 - 30 minutes then apply your stone flex and follow directions for curing. Once this is dry you should coat it with a quality urethane prefferably polyurethane two coats then let dry a good 24 hours at 70 degres at 50% humidity or less. Your tub is fiberglass not plastic. No you can't paint it with the ';Stone'; paint. Go to Home Depot, Lowes or another friendly home improvement store, and visit the paint dept. Ask for tub refinishing kit. for a large tub you may need 2 kits. You have to follow the instructions exactly, and the yellow may still show through, and you may have streaks. There are companies that refinish tubs, check your yellow pages and ask for a price quote.
may as well give it a try, if you dont like it getting it off should be easy
I buy houses and redecorate them and sell. You cant refinish a plastic bathtub.Impossible.I've tried for 23 years. No paint will hold on plastic. But a good place to find you an enamel coated or cast iron cheap is on craigslist.
