It is generally a good idea to take your car to a body shop for painting plastic mirrors. Most newer cars have paints that require multiple coats of specialized paint. On older cars, the paint has faded some from the sunlight and it is not possible to match the color with original equipment paint codes. A quality body shop will have their own paint mixer and can adjust the color for the slight fading that has taken place.

If getting a perfect match is not that important, then you can go to any auto parts store and buy a can of spray paint in the color code of your vehicle. When you have chosen the paint, you take the mirror off, scuff it with a light sand paper and follow the instructions for painting on the can. It will give you the same basic color as the car, but unless you have significant experience in spray painting, the quality might prove to be suspect. How do i paint my plastic side mirrors on my car?
1. Remove side mirrors from the body of the car, and take out the actual mirror.

2. Wash the mirrors good with soap and water, then use a rubbing compound to remove any wax. Finally, rough up the area you want to sand with 600-grit wet/dry sandpaper soaked in water. Wash off the dust and let dry.

3. Using masking tape and paper, cover anything that was behind the mirror glass that you wouldn't want painted. This includes electronics, motors, heating elements, etc.

4. Spray on a few coats of adhesion promoter (a primer for plastics). Use light coats, allow 15 minutes of drying time between coats.

5. Spray on several coats of touch-up auto paint that matches your car's colour. Check the paint code for your vehicle, usually on a sticker or metal plate under the hood or in the doorjam, to get the best colour match. Again, light coats and 15 minutes between coats.

6. Spray on a few coats of clearcoat. Use light coats, 15 minutes of drying time. This step can be skipped, but clearcoat will give it a nice glossy look.

7. Allow at least a day for all the products to dry.

8. Sand the painted surface with 1500-grit wet/dry sandpaper soaked in water to smoothen out the surface. Then use a rubbing compound (usually the equivalent of 3000-grit sandpaper) to polish it off.

9. Re-attach the side mirrors, and don't wash or wax your vehicle for at least a month.
