Does anyone know any paint or technique for painting clear plastic so that afterwords it is still see-through?

i am going to paint a Transformers Energon clear weapon and i want to keep the see-through properties after i have painted it the color i want.Does anyone know any paint or technique for painting clear plastic so that afterwords it is still see-through?
Go to a local craft store, such as Michael's, and in their glass paint section you will find both bottles and sprays in various colours. The bottles generally give a textured finish and are not always translucent, but the sprays, if applied correctly, offer a perfect finish that is very similar to that of a piece of quality coloured glass.Does anyone know any paint or technique for painting clear plastic so that afterwords it is still see-through?
it would look really sloppy but a like spray with spray paint might work... but my suggestion would be to find a local D.J. store or like a music store and see if they sell light gels..

light gels are tints and they come in just as many colors as paint does and you can put then on with some adhesive and it would probably look better then anything else..

light gels come in all sizes from 4 inches by 4 inches all the way to 3 ft by 2 ft

i would say use water colours, but then they usually only come in pastel. you would have to wait for it to dry completely every time you want to do another layer.
